April 14, 1920

THE NEW YORK TIMES, April 14 and 15, 1920

* Historic Babe Ruth pair
* New York Yankees debut
* Major league baseball

The reports in these two newspapers are a logical pair, hence we offer these two newspapers as a single lot.
The page 10 sports section of the April 14 issue has a report near the bottom of the page headed: "Yankees at Philadelphia" for their opening of the 1920 season. It includes: "...There is much ado everywhere this season about the Yankees because of Babe Ruth, & Philadelphia has stirred up an unusual amount of interest in the debut of the home-run slugger in a New York uniform..." with the line-up showing Babe Ruth at center field (see).
The issue of April 15 reports the game with a one column head: "Babe Ruth's Muff Tosses Game Away" "Slugger's Fielding Blunder in Eighth Gives Athletics Victory Over Yankees". The report is lengthy (see) and includes a subhead: "Ruth Produces a Single".
An extremely significant pair of newspapers and terrific to have these reports in the New York Times.
Both issues are complete with 32 pages each, light browning with a little margin wear, otherwise good. Should be handled with care.
