NEW YORK TIMES, Aug. 6, 1974 The three-line banner headline reports perhaps the most significant event in the entire Watergate political scandal: "NIXON ADMITS HALTING INVESTIGATION OF WATERGATE 6 DAYS AFTER BREAK-IN; EXPECTS IMPEACHMENT; SUPPORT EBBS" with various related subheads, one of which reads: "Nixon Ordered That the F.B.I. Be Told: 'Don't Go Any Further Into This Case' ". Just 3 days later he would resign from the Presidency.
