THE WEEKLY REGISTER, Baltimore, Maryland, Sept. 8, 1821 Beginning on pg. 2 is a report headed: "Napoleon Bonaparte" which is prefaced with:
"The following particulars are interesting, and seem necessary to assist in affording an account of the exit of the man who, for so many years, had occupied the attention of all the civilized world..." with a subhead: "Official Account of His Decease" and further on is another subhead: "Of the Causes of His Death" with this report taking close to two pages (see photos for portions).
Among other reports in this issue are:
* "Debates on the Slave Trade" from the British House of Commons, including a lengthy address by Mr. Wilberforce (of "Amazing Grace" fame), this report taking over 4 pgs.
* "Effects of Slavery"
* "Tobacco"
* Document signed by: Simon Bolivar
This issue is complete in 16 pages measuring about 6 by 9.5 inches with several small binding holes along the left spine, scattered lite foxing, otherwise in good condition.
This small size newspaper began in 1811 and was a prime source for national political news of the first half of the 19th century. As noted in Wikipedia:
"Niles edited and published the Weekly Register until 1836, making it into one of the most widely-circulated magazines in the United States and himself into one of the most influential journalists of his day. Devoted primarily to politics, Niles' Weekly Register is considered an important source for the history of the period."
