November 21, 1883
THE TRUCKEE REPUBLICAN, Truckee, California, November 21, 1883
* Outlaw Black Bart - stagecoach robber
* Sentence to San Quentin prison (1st report)
Page 3 has a very rare, period report concerning the infamous stagecoach robber "Black Bart", noted for his poetic messages left after his robberies (see hyperlink for more on him). He was also known as Charles Bolton and C.E. Bolton, and operated primarily in Northern California and Southern Oregon so it is significant that this report appears in a Northern California newspaper.
The report is headed " 'Black Bart's' Sentence" and mentions that he: "...has been sent to San Quentin for six years...He denied being 'Black Bart', & declared that this was is first, as it should be his last, offense against the law..." with more (see photos).
Complete in 4 pages, even toning, very nice condition.
