WESTERN SENTINEL, Winston, North Carolina, October 31, 1862

* Battle of Perryville
* Uncommon Confederate title

  This is a very rare title from the Confederacy. According to Brigham only four institutions in the United States have any holdings of this title from the Civil War, most just a few scattered issues. The American Antiquarian Society has no issues recorded from this era.

There is various reporting on the Civil War from the Confederate perspective including front page articles: "The Battle of Perryville--Gen. Bragg's official Report" which takes over three-quarters of the first column; "Agency for Our Troops in Richmond" and "Gen. Bragg" and "Gen. Lee's Dinner Table".

There is much war reporting on pages 2 & 3 as well with "The News" which has a variety of reports; a dispatch to Gen. S Cooper which is signed in type by: G. T. Beauregard; "Northern Items", "Demand for an Advance", "Condition of Our Army", "Gen. Stuart's Late Raid", "Gen. Bragg's Operations in Kentucky", "From New Orleans" and more. Plus more on the back page  including: "Gallant Conduct of N. Carolina Troops", "A Confederate Navy", "Gen. Polk at Perryville", "Yankee Outrages" and more. There are ads on the back page as well including one headed: "Deserters!"

Four pages 11 1/2 by 17 1/2 inches,  great condition.
