September 16, 1814
THE YANKEE, Boston, September 16, 1814 The most intriguing feature of this issue is the War of 1812 map which dominates page 3, headed: "View Of the Country Round the Falls of Niagara" and beneath which is an article titled: "Battle of Bridgewater" (see). As any collector knows maps in newspapers of this era were almost never found.
Not surprisingly there is much more on the War of 1812 with articles headed: "NAVAL VICTORY ! " which is Com. MacDonough's victory on Lake Champlain; "Attack Of Plattsburg" "Defence of Boston & Charlestown" "Retreat of the Enemy from Alexandria" "Official Account" of Lt. Col. Croghan; "Accounts from the Eastward" " "The Naval Victory" "Army at Niagara" "Defensive Arrangements" "Further Particulars" plus most of the front page with war-related content. A great issue on several accounts.
Four pages, close-trimmed on pg. 4 only not affecting mentioned content; nearly close-trimmed at the top of pg. 3 but no effect to type; generally very nice condition.
