THE CLEVELAND LEADER, Ohio, November 3, 1913

* Notre Dame's famous use of the forward pass - 1st time used effectively in football
* Upsets Army Cadets
* Knute Rockne on the team

Page 12 has under: "Saturday's Contests on Eastern Fields Brought Forth Many Surprises" and subhead: "Norte Dame Surprised East"

mention of the famous game between Notre Dame and Army in which the forward pass was 1st used effectively. Text includes: "Notre Dame's spectacular open play throughout the game came as a revelation to Eastern Critics. The forward pass was responsible...."
.
Sport's reporting in newspapers from this time period were unimpressive in visual appearance, so this small and brief report could be considered common for this game.

Other news of the day. Usual browning with some margin wear and tear, otherwise good. Should be handled with care.

wikipedia notes: Knute Rockne and Gus Dorais worked on the pass while lifeguarding on a Lake Erie beach at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio, during the summer of 1913. That year, Jesse Harper, Notre Dame head coach, also showed how the pass could be used by a smaller team to beat a bigger one, first utilizing it to defeat rival Army. After it was used against a major school on a national stage in this game, the forward pass rapidly gained popularity.
