Here is a complete bound volume of the first illustrated newspaper in the world, THE ILLUSTRATED LONDON NEWS, England, containing all 26 weekly issues for January 7 to June 24, 1893.
An absolute treasure-trove of terrific prints, and this volume is in much better condition than most. Having been a dealer in this (and other) titles for over 34 years we have handled hundreds of these bound volumes. The internal pages and prints in this volume are among the best we have seen.
Mentions are only some of the highlights, and the photos are just a sampling of those within this volume, there being simply too many to photograph all.
Some of the prints include: "Dynamite Manufacture at Isleten...Switzerland" "Marriage of Princess Marie of Edinburgh" "International Skating Meeting, Netherlands" "A Barber's Shop at Cairo" "The English In Cairo: Visiting the Howling Dervishes in the Mosque" "Rugby Union Football" "A London Flower Girl" "The Houses of Parliament, Westminster" "His Holiness Pope Leo XIII" "Some Incidents of a Debutante's First Drawing-Room" "The Oxford & Cambridge Boat Race" "Donington Hall"; team members of "The Oxford & Cambridge Boat Race" "The First Lesson" "The Queen's Visit to Italy: Views of Florence" "Driving Jack Rabbits into a Corral, Fresno, California" "The Three Fishers" "Old Country Inns" "In The Synagogue" (Judaica); "Duck Shooting Expedition in India" "Hughenden Manor" "The Mormon Temple...Salt Lake City" "Australian Cricket Players in England" "In The North of Abyssinia" "Her Majesty Queen Victoria, Empress of India" "A Journey in Morocco" "Polo In India"
* There is a beautiful centerfold color print: "the Derby: The Weighing Room, Epsom" which is in excellent condition, and would be a terrific print for any horse-racing fan (see).
* A full page color print titled: "A Rainy Day" (see).
* A full page color print titled: "Danger" (see).
* A full page color print titled: "Flirtation" (see).
* A full page color print titled: "The Queen of the Harem" (see).
* There is a separate "Supplement" titled ""Pictures From the Royal Academy" has many prints in several different colors.
* There is a separate "Supplement" titled: "Pictures From the New Gallery" with prints in blue or brown.
Contains over 800 pages, still bound in original three-quarter leather bindings showing minor wear and some loss, with a more modern brown paper covering (see). The issues can be easily disbound for individual issue sale. The interior pages are in excellent & very clean condition although I noted six pages with tape repairs, and perhaps a dozen pages with tears at the margins.
