October 09, 1662

MERCURIUS PUBLICUS, London, England, October 9, 1662  Here is an uncommon title in newsbook format (the forerunner of newspapers) "Comprising the sum of all Affairs now in agitation in England, Scotland, and Ireland, Together with Forrain Intelligence For Information of the People, & to Prevent false News" as stated in the masthead. (see photos)
Although we have offered several newsbooks in recent years, I believe this is one of the less common titles we have offered.
The entire issue is taken up with various reports from all corners of Europe, much of it having a military theme. One item from the "Hague" notes: "The States General have sent further orders to Vice Admiral de Ruyter to persist in his demands of the Pirates, that all their ships with their men & goods should pass as freely as the English..." (see). There are several advertisements as well.
Measures 6 3/4 by 8 5/8 inches with very wide margins, has 16 pages, and is in very good condition. The bottom margin of the front leaf only is irregularly but not remotely close to any text.
