August 02, 1934

TAUNTON DAILY GAZETTE, Massachusetts, August 2, 1934

* Germany President Paul Von Hindenburg death
* Adolph Hitler becomes president
* Nazis begin climb to full power of Germany

This 16 page newspaper has a very nice banner headline on the front page: "VON HINDENBURG IS DEAD" with subheads that include: "Hitler Becomes Master of Germany by Decree of Cabinet Merging the Two Offices of President and Chancellor"  and more with related photo. Nice headline for display.

Other news of the day. Light browning with little margin wear, otherwise good. Should be handled with care.

wikipedia notes: President Paul von Hindenburg died on 2 August 1934. Rather than call new elections as required by the constitution, Hitler's cabinet passed a law proclaiming the presidency vacant and transferred the role and powers of the head of state to Hitler as Führer und Reichskanzler (leader and chancellor). This action effectively removed the last legal remedy by which Hitler could be dismissed – and with it, nearly all institutional checks and balances on his power.
