The entire front page is a great and very famous print by A. R. Waud titled: "The First Vote", showing African-American men in line at the ballot box, the lead man depositing his vote. This print is in celebration of the Southern states aligning themselves under the reconstruction acts of Congress
. Blacks would not receive the right to vote until the 15th Amendment would be ratified in Feb., 1870. There is a related article on pg. 2.
The balance of the issue includes various other unrelated prints and text. A very displayable issue with this famous front page print (see photos).
Complete in 16 pages, never bound nor trimmed, a few brown spots within the ftpg. print (see), and some wear at the margins. The subscriber's name is lightly penciled above the masthead.
