April 01, 1863

THE PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, April 1, 1863  The front page is almost entirely taken up with events and reports on the Civil War, and also includes the complete text of: "President's Proclamation for a Day of Humiliation and Prayer" which is signed in type: Abraham Lincoln. The text reads in part:
"...devoutly recognizing the supreme authority and just government of Almighty God in all the affairs of men and of nations...set apart a day for national prayer and humiliation...to unite, at their several places of public worship and their respective homes, in keeping the day holy to the Lord and devoted to the humble discharge of the religious duties proper to that solemn occasion..." with more.
Complete in 8 pgs., binding slits at the blank spine margin, otherwise generally nice.
