THOMAS'S MASSACHUSETTS SPY, OR WORCESTER GAZETTE, Nov. 11, 1784 The masthead was engraved by Paul Revere and is quite decorative, featuring medallion-like devices on either side and very ornate, flowery lettering in the title (see photos). Pg. 2 has a report headed: "Conditions of the late Cession of certain Western Lands to Congress by the State of North Carolina (see photos for text).
Pg. 2 also has a nice: "Proclamation for a Day of Thanksgiving" which ends with: "...that so we may be that happy people whose GOD is the LORD and that all nations may bow to the Sceptre of our Lord and Saviour JESUS CHRIST and that the whole Earth may be filled with his Glory.", signed in type: John Hancock as governor of Massachusetts.
Pg. 3 has articles headed "Air Balloon" and "Aerostation" this being the time of much excitement with experimentations with hot air balloons.
Complete in 4 pages, some minor foxing, generally in very nice condition. A very displayable issue given the handsome Paul Revere engraving in the masthead.
