A good report about the Battle of Beecher Island, located in the Arikaree River, a tributary of the north fork of the Republican River. Includes several mentions of Col. Forsythe, as well as Lieut. Beecher, nephew of Henry Ward Beecher, who was severely injured and ...begged his men to kill him. Noted Indian chief Roman Nose was killed in this battle, and a source says that Bat Masterson was at this battle, also known as the Battle of Arikaree Fork.
