CHICAGO DAILY TRIBUNE, Nov. 3, 1948 See the photo for what could easily be the most recognizable headline of the 20th century: DEWEY DEFEATS TRUMAN. Even people who are not remotely knowledgeable about historic newspapers are familiar with this headline! The early edition of this paper printed this famous error, which was changed with the second edition, however several bundles had already been shipped to the Chicago suburbs. It is interesting to note that the typesetters of the Tribune were on strike at the time, so much of this issue was set using a typewriter, giving it its amateur appearance. Some sentences are even pasted in upside down. Just a slight bit of wear at the spine & the horizontal fold and mild foxing at the two folds as is typical. No real disfigurements to speak of. See the several photos for the nice condition of this issue. Certainly a cornerstone issue for any newspaper collection. The issue includes a deluxe gift portfolio for presentation & safe keeping (see photos).
