Item # 219927

April 29, 1833

EVENING POST, N.Y., April 29, 1833.

* Capital Building renovations being made
* Washington D.C.

 Page 2 has a report about a material alteration to the House of Representatives. Says the floor is to be raised ...to a level with the logea [sic], behind the Speakers Chair, and to descend towards the present principal entrance; the Speakers Chair is to be placed near the main door, thus changing the position of the members... plus mention that two doors will be removed from the wall surrounding the Chamber, that a new gallery will be formed and the entrance ...will be light and airy, like that in the Senate Chamber. Also that the hearing and the capacity will be improved by the changes, and that: The room is to be heated by flue passing in various directions under the arched floor, from the furnaces in the first story... and a bit more. Occasional foxing.
