Item # 211297
March 15, 1842
LONG-ISLAND DEMOCRAT, Jamaica, N.Y., March 15, 1842. Taking more than a full column on the front page is a timely letter to the Superintendent of Common Schools of the State of New York concerning a potentially inappropriate book found in the school's library titled "The Cabinet of Curiosities, or Wonders of the World Displayed". The letter discusses some details of the book (all referred to by the writer of the letter as lies), the frustration of children being permitted to read and be influenced by the lies, and a fine placed upon the parent for defacing the book. The images will give the best sense of the controversy. Additional news of the day are included in this 4 page issue. A few light stains and light foxing are present, but overall in nice condition as indicated in the images.
