THE EDINBURGH EVENING COURANT, Scotland, Nov. 1, 1759 The front page contains "By the King, A Proclamation" for a day of thanksgiving for: "...particularly by the defeat of the French army in Canada, & the taking of Quebec...". Page 2 contains a report reading in part: "...giving an account of the surrender of the city & castle of Quebec & concluding thus: 'In this glorious & brilliant affair we have only to regret the loss of General Wolfe, whose name will be ever dear to his country. This young hero, at the age of 33 years, had given proofs of capacity in the military art..." with more (see photos) and further down the same page are items which include: "...the enemy's forces are now divided...universal discontent among the Canadians...General Amherst is advancing into the colony. A vigorous blow struck by the army may determine te fate of Canada....the troops will land where the French seems least to expect it. The first body that gets on shore are to march directly to the enemy..." with more. Plus there is another item which begins: "The late brave general Wolfe was born in the city of York...The mother of the late Gen. Wolfe, who so gloriously fell before the walls of Quebec, is, we hear, so much affected ror the loss of her son..." with more text on him, followed by an item noting: "M de Montcalm died on board an English ship. Before he expired he generously said, that he had got his death fighting against the bravest troops in the world, at the head of the greatest poltroons that ever carried muskets." Complete in 4 pages, folio size, red-inked tax stamp on the front page, nice condition.
