June 17, 1775

THE EDINBURGH EVENING COURANT, Scotland, June 17, 1775 This is a great issue, no only for having some fine content on the Revolutionary War, but this issue carries the date of the Battle of Bunker Hill. Page 2 has much reporting on the events in the Boston area immediately after Lexington & Concord, with some text including: "We still seem to be in great suspense about the accounts from Boston...there has been a smart  engagement between the King's troops & the Provincials...they are entrenching themselves at Roxbury & erecting batteries to play on our lines...it seems they have lost many men on both sides...we are all in motion here & equipped from the town yesterday 100 men...they are all well armed & in high spirits...men of the first character & property shoulder their arms & march off for the field of action...the eyes of America are on New York..." and simply so much more. See the photos below for the complete text.  The war reporting carries over to page 3 has well where there are references to the events at Lexington & Concord (see photos), with one report beginning: "Before this comes to your hand, you will, no doubt, have heard of an engagement between his Majesty's troops & the provincials near Boston in which a number of both sides have been killed...the colonies are now more united than ever...entered into an association in which they resolve...never to become slaves; & bind themselve by all the ties of religion, honour, and love to their country to adopt & carry into execution whatever measures may be recommended by the Continental Congress..." and much more (see photos).  Truly a great issue covering the opening events of the Revolutionary War. Complete in 4 pages, folio size, nice condition.
