DUNLAP'S PENNSYLVANIA PACKET & GENERAL ADVERTISER, March 18, 1776 This is simply a terrific issue on many accounts, the first of which is the very ornate & displayable masthead with the ornate lettering and the nice engraving of a sailing ship (see photo). Plus, this is a newspaper from Philadelphia dated 1776. The front page has a lengthy (nearly 2 columns) "Letter #1 To the People of Pennsylvania" signed by: Cato, concerning political events at that time. This letter is responded to by beginning on the front page: "At length the long wished for opponent of American Independence has made his public appearance..." which goes on to take nearly 2 columns on pg. 2. Page 3 has a nice proclamation signed in type by John Hancock for a day of thanksgiving & prayer for all the colonies (see). A report notes that Washington had stormed and taken the heights of Dorchester with some nice particulars of the famous battle there (see photos). Plus there are many more interesting tidbits concerning the Revolutionary War. Complete in 4 pages, larger in size than most colonial issues, very minor edge wear, generally quite nice. A rare opportunity for not only a Phila. newspaper from 1776, but one in nice condition and with some significant content!
