THE NATIONAL REGISTER, Washington, May 3, 1817  An uncommon title that existed from March 2, 1816 thru Dec. 7, 1820. As the photos show the format was very much like the more popular 'Niles Weekly Register' which began in 1811, but not remotely as successful.
Inside has much on the life of Napoleon Bonaparte, one portion headed: "Blunder of Waterloo".
Sixteen pages, 6 1/4 by 9 1/2 inches, scattered foxing, good condition.

NATIONAL INTELLIGENCER, Washington, D.C., July 29, 1817  The top of the ftpg: "Napoleon Buonaparte" which begins: "The fact of Bonaparte being employed in writing 'Memoirs of his Own Life and Times'...".

Page 3 has an item noting: "Dispatches were received...from Mr. Monroe. THE UNIVERSAL GAZETTE, Philadelphia, Feb. 28, 1799  The front page has 1 1/2 columns on a letter to: "The Secretary of the Navy" from William Bainbridge, concerning the controversy of him surrendering his ship to the French in the Quasi-War, which was a limited naval war against French privateers who were seizing U.S. shipping in the Caribbean.

BOSTON COMMERCIAL & POLITICAL GAZETTE, Boston, Massachusetts, May 17, 1802  On the bkpg. under "Definitive Treaty" is the text of a famous treaty known as the Treaty of Amiens which brought a brief lull to the Napoleonic Wars and relaxed trade restraints affecting American shipping. Signed in type by Bonaparte, Cornwallis and two other gentlemen. Archival mends to a few minor tears at the spine, a few soft creases, areas of lite foxing.

COLUMBIAN CENTINEL, Boston, Jan. 2, 1799  Page 2 has a letter addressed to: "Thomas Jefferson, Vice President of the United States" concerning being an elector for President, signed: "A Plain American". Pg. 2 also has much on the Napoleonic Wars, with: "Official Account of the Amputation of Another Limb of the French Monster" "From Gibraltar" "Buonaparte In Adversity" "More About Buonaparte!" and more.

SALEM GAZETTE, Massachusetts, Aug. 23, 1808  Among the items is a page 2: "Proclamation" signed in type: Napoleon, noting in part: "...We guarantee to the King of Spain the independence and integrity of his States in Europe..." followed by a response "Proclamation" by the King of Spain.
Four pages, never bound nor trimmed, some wear at the margins with some foxing & damp stains.

DAILY FEDERAL REPUBLICAN, Georgetown, Jan. 19, 1814  Page 3 begins with: "Important - Bonaparte Returned To Paris" which reports on his latest saga in "War of the Sixth Coalition"  which would ultimately lead to his defeat and exile to the island of Elba.
Ftpg.  is filled with ads including the "Negroes Wanted" ad shown in the photo.

COLUMBIAN CENTINEL & MASSACHUSETTS FEDERALIST, Boston, Oct. 15, 1803  The top of page 2 has: Congress" which begins: "Is to meet at Washington on Monday next. The Louisiana treaty must immediately be taken up; as by one of its stipulations, the ratification must be on or before the first appropriations..." and much more.
Page 2 also has a curious & brief item: "Buonaparte has declared he will eat his Christmas dinner in London."

NEW YORK EVENING POST, May 13, 1815  Page 2 has an interesting and lengthy letter: "Upon the New Usurpation of Bonaparte" which begins: "There cannot be a more momentous inquiry to all who are interesting in the tranquility of the Christian & civilized world, than whether Bonaparte is really restored with the good wishes of the people of France...".

THE WEEKLY MESSENGER, Boston, May 1, 1812  Page 2 has: "Buonaparte's Treatment to the American" taking most of a column & introduced with: "The following is a plain unvarnished narrative of the cruelties & sufferings experienced by one of our fellow citizens during his captivity with our 'dear friends'...".
Four pages, damp staining to the bottom half, otherwise good.

THE SPECTATOR, New York, March 20, 1799  Page 3 has a report from the Quasi-War with France: Truxton's Victory" as well as an: "Extract of a letter from Captain Stephen Decatur..." dated at the "Gulph of Florida".
Page 3 also has a curious item noting in part: "...Mr. Liston has news from Jamaica, late date from Europe, which gives a confirmation of the murder of Buonaparte and the beginning of hostilities...". This was not true.
Four pages, irregular at the spine margin from disbinding.

THE TIMES, London, Dec. 27, 1798  Page 3 has a report from Paris which includes: "...has been in circulation to-day, brought from Vienna, of the death of Buonaparte. The difference of the particulars in this account makes it very questionable. This General is in three ways said to have been killed--in the open field, while engaged in battle--in the street as he was going to a meeting--and in an Assembly of the Notables of Egypt..." with more. He did not die until 1821.
