background: The assassination of Joseph "Tough Joe" Amberg on September 30, 1935, was a meticulously choreographed execution carried out by the professional killers of Murder, Inc. inside a Brooklyn garage. At high noon, while Amberg and his chauffeur, Morris Kessler, were picking up a new sedan at the Blake-Christopher Auto Garage, three gunmen disguised in grease-stained mechanics' overalls cornered them and forced them to stand with their noses pressed against a concrete wall. In a display of cold-blooded efficiency that became a hallmark of the Syndicate, the assassins fired a barrage of rounds into the men’s heads and backs before discarding their disguises and vanishing into the Brooklyn traffic. This hit was sanctioned by heavyweights Louis "Lepke" Buchalter and Albert Anastasia to resolve a long-standing turf war over the garment district and labor unions, effectively decapitating the Amberg gang’s leadership just weeks before Joseph's brother, Louis "Pretty" Amberg, was also brutally murdered.
