NEW YORK TIMES, July 29, 1952 Page 7 has a report concerning the funeral of Eva Peron, wife of the Argentine dictator Juan Peron. But her life outshone that of her husband, with her identifying as one of the common people, causing her to be beloved by the people of Argentina.
The first column head: "4 Die, 2,100 Hurt At Eva Peron Rite" "Body of Argentine First Lady To Lie in State Another Day--Many Kiss Her Coffin". There is also a photo showing the huge crowd, headed: "Argentines Waiting to Pay Homage to Eva Peron" with the caption offering more detail.
Her fame was unknown to much of the world until Andrew Lloyd Weber's musical production "Evita" opened in London in 1978, and the following year on Broadway. The show opens with the funeral of Eva Peron, reported here.
Also of interest is a two-column headline on page 23: "Air Force Explains 2-Hour Delay In Chasing 'Objects' Over Capital". This UFO incident, also known as the Washington flap or the Washington National Airport Sightings, was a series of unidentified flying object reports from July 13 to July 29, 1952, over Washington D.C. The most publicized sightings took place on consecutive weekends, July 19–20 and July 26–27.
The complete 46 page issue, this is the "rag edition" printed on high-quality newsprint meant for institutional holdings. In great condition.
