May 01, 1776
THE SCOTS MAGAZINE, (Edinburgh), May, 1776  A terrific issue, as under the heading: "America' are reports concerning the Revolutionary War which consume 13 pages of fascinating reading, including several Resolves from Congress which are signed in type by the President: John Hancock. There is another document from the Continental Congress signed in type by John Hancock as well.
Another action from the Congress begins: "Whereas the petitions of these United Colonies to the King, for the redress of great & manifest grievances, have not only bee rejected but threatened with scorn & contempt..." followed by a series of Resolves to rectify the problems. Then more reports relating to the Revolutionary War with a document signed in type by: Wm. Tryon, and reports from Philadelphia and Charleston, one noting: "The provincials have lately been plentifully supplied with arms & ammunition from foreign powers...".
There is a letter sent to General Howe from New York which begins: "As I have not a doubt...that this city & province is the only spot in America for carrying on the war with effect against the rebels..." with much more on this. Also a letter from Providence beginning: "Our folks have now possession of Dorchester Hill..." and a letter from New York with war-related details.
There is a half page letter signed in type: George Washington, with many war reports including: "...pleasure to inform you that on the morning of the 17ith Gen. Howe, with his army, abandoned Boston without destroying it...Their embarkation & retreat were hurried & precipitate...The town is in a much better situation..." and much more. Then a report from "Boston harbour" with good content, followed by another letter from Boston harbor.
Yet another letter taking half page signed in type by: George Washington, concerning the abandonment of Boston by the British. The war-related reports continue, with datelines from Philadelphia and Boston, one noting that the body of Dr.. Warren, killed at Bunker Hill, was dug up & "...interred with great solemnity at Boston."
Other fine content as well.
Complete in 56 pages, 5 by 8 1/4 inches, the ftpg. has the: "Contents", disbound, very nice condition.
