NEW YORK SEMI-WEEKLY TRIBUNE, Jan. 13, 1860 Almost the entire front page is taken up with report on his Pemberton Mills tragedy in Lawrence, Massachusetts.
The first column heads: "HORRIBLE CATASTROPHE!" "Full Particulars" "182 PESONS KILLED" "Hundreds Buried Alive" "Terrible Scenes" "Testimony Taken by the Coroner".
On January 10 a section of the building suddenly collapsed, trapping several hundred workers underneath the rubble, in what has been called "the worst industrial accident in Massachusetts history" and "one of the worst industrial calamities in American history."
