Providing money for the Louisiana Purchase...

Item # 708137 ·

SALEM REGISTER, Massachusetts, Nov. 10, 1803  Almost the entire front page is taken up with an historic report from Congress  headed: "OF LOUISIANA" which previously was held in secrecy but now is ordered to be printed. From the House the report begins: "...Resolved, that a sum of two millions of dollars, in additional to the provision heretofore made, be appropriated to defray any expenses which may be incurred in relation to the intercourse between the United States and foreign nations...and be applied to the direction of the President..." with much more concerning the formalities of providing money for the Lousiana Purchase.
The report is very descriptive of the territory, too much to detail here but most can be seen in the photos. Page 2 has an article headed: "Louisiana".
Four pages, nice condition.
