This was one of several titles published by the successful Frederick Gleason, known as the "father of illustrated journalism" with this very successful "Gleason's Pictorial Drawing-Room Companion" in 1851, modelled after the "Illustrated London News" & later copied by both Harper and Leslie.
This was a literary publication from the Civil War era, the prime feature being the huge eagle engraving in the masthead, with a wingspan of 7 inches. There are just 3 illustrations, most content being literary.
Sixteen pages, 11 by 15 inches, great condition.
