EVENING TRIBUNE, San Diego, California, Dec. 23, 1913  The front page has a fine banner headline announcing the very beginning of the Federal Reserve System, established by Congress to serve as the U.S. central bank.
The headline announces: "CURRENCY BILL IS READY FOR PRESIDENT" with a subhead: "Lie Is Passed IN Senate During Hot Debate On Currency". President Wilson would sign the Act into law the day of this newspaper.
