The front page has a nice letter from New York with war-related information: "...Gen Howe left this garrison 4000 strong under the command of Gen. Robinson and made a feint, as if he intended attacking the rebels at King's Bridge..." with more on this, including: "...the Provincials sent down two fireships whilst the fire raged in New York, to burn the fleet...". "The magazines of the Provincials are placed some miles in the rear of their lines. They have entrenchments from King's Bridge to New Rochelle...The fire at new York commenced at Jacob Remsen's storehouse at Whitehall...About 1200 houses are destroyed. Trinity Church, at New York, was set on fire in 3 places...Mr. Washington, presently after the landing on New York Island, narrowly escaped being made prisoner...".
Good content on pages 2, 3 & 4 as well.one critical letter mentioning: "...those Ministers soon after drove our Colonies from their allegiance into a dependency on our worst enemies...".
Another good letter from New York mentions: "...On the 8th of October 340 rebels...came down Harlem River...and attacked an outpost of ours on Montresor Island..." with more on this skirmish. Also: "...The Brune is crowded with Loyalists, every day making their escape from the rebels...". Some content on the New York fire as well (see photos).
The bkpg. includes a: "Proclamation" signed by W. Howe, offering pardon to all deserters from the King's army, who return to their divisions by the end of October. Again more on the fire, as well as this very historic mention: "...His Majesty's forces are now in possession of the city of New York, with all the harbour & sound of Long and Staten Islands...".
Even more fine content, too much to note here but likely visible in the photos.
