NEW-YORK TIMES, Dec. 1, 1870  On page 5 under "Base-Ball" is a report: "Fourteenth Annual Convention of the National Association." The report lists the names of the delegates in attendance & describes the events of the meeting. After the "evils of professional ball playing" were discussed there was a vote endorsing the "professional system". The report then mentions that a lengthy list of amendments were adopted, "...the most important of which was limiting the weight of rubber in the ball to one ounce." (see)
