June 20, 1847
AMERICAN STAR--NO. 2, Puebla, Mexico, June 20, 1847

* Very rare title
* Mexican War

A very rare "traveling" military newspaper, one of the publishers being a soldier/printer. The newspaper followed the army during the Mexican War, having begun in Jalapa, Mexico, then moving with the army to Puebla (hence the title including the notation "No. 2"), then moving the Mexico City where it would cease publication in 1848 upon the end of the war.
This is the vol. 1 #3 issue. At the top of the first column is: "The American Star--No 2 will be published on Thursdays and Sundays during the stay of the American Army at Puebla...". Almost the entire newspaper is taken up with military reports on the war, with a portion of page 3 in Spanish. All else is in English.
Complete in 4 pages, close-trimmed at the right margin of the front leaf affects the last letter of most sentences but doesn't deter readability, and also the first letter or two of column 1 of page 2. A piece from a lower corner of the first leaf does cause some text loss (see). Minor loss at the blank spine. Measures 11 by 17 inches.
A very rare title. I believe I've only offered 2 or 3 of these in 38 years.
