April 26, 1815
THOMAS'S MASSACHUSETTS SPY OR WORCESTER GAZETTE, April 26, 1815  Page 3 has an article: "Constitution Frigate Safe" which has a report noting: "...arrived there after an unsuccessful chase after the constitution frigate. They had her in close pursuit for a long time when a fog came on, and Old Iron Sides gave them the slip." This might be the earliest use of the nickname "Old Ironsides" I have seen in a period newspaper.
Inside has other items relating to the closing events of the War of 1812, including: "Indian Hostilities" ""Recapture of the Levant", and item noting: "The U. States' frigate Guerriere came up from the Hook on Thurs morning & anchored in the North River...Com. Decatur shifted his broad pendant from the Constellation to the Guerriere." (see); "Copy of a Letter from Com Patterson to the Secretary of the Navy..." which is from New Orleans. Also: "...The news of the ratification of the treaty was received at N. Orleans on the 13th and the order which proclaimed martial law was revoked." More items as well.
Four pages, never bound nor trimmed, minor foxing at folds, some archival mends at the spine, generally nice condition.
