January 13, 1942
THE DETROIT FREE PRESS, Detroit, Michigan, January 13, 1942  The front page of this issue has a column-wide headline "Joe Louis due to Don Uniform on Wednesday" and an accompanying large photo "Army Acquires a New Type of Bomber - Joe Louis and W. C. Saunders, Army examination official - The Brown Bomber is fingerprinted, at Fort Jay, L.I.". This is the report of Joe Louis becoming "draft registrant No. 374" and would go from being "the champ that gets $100,000 or so for a few brief minutes' work... becomes Pvt. J. Luis Barrow at $21 a month."  Great to have coverage in his hometown paper.

Also within in the issue is "Honeymoon in Swingtime" which is a picture of Mickey Rooney and Ava Gardner who were recently married. Additional news, sports and advertisement of the day are within.

This is complete in 18 pages with a slight irregular left spine, otherwise in nice condition.
