The top of the front page has reports concerning the John Brown raid on the arsenal at Harper's Ferry, West Virginia (then Virginia), with column heads: "The Panic 'At The South" "Virginia Mustering on the Frontier of the Free States" "Rumors of an Expedition to Rescue Brown" "Trepidation & Consternation" "The Excitement at Charlestown--Rapid Concentration of Troops" with many subheads & the report taking 2 columns & carrying over to take a column on pg. 2. There is also an editorial headed: "John Brown & Southern Politics" on pg. 4.
