GENTLEMAN'S MAGAZINE, London, September, 1760  Among the articles in this issue are: "Austrian Account of the Siege of Dresden" "Prussian Account of the Siege of Breslau"  "Late Discovery of the Virtues of Hemlock" and more.
Near the back is the "Historical Chronicle" which gives various news reports of the day and which also includes some accounts of Col. Montgomery's expedition against the Cherokee Indians in South Carolina, as well as a report noting: "...that Gen. Amherst moved forward from Oswego...and that Gen. Murray had gained some advantage over the Canadians." (see). There is also a report headed: "America" with news: "...from the army at Oswego...that Brig. Moncton from Fort Pittsburg had joined Gen. Amherst at Oswego..." with more reports from America (see).
The plate called for in this issue is lacking. Complete in 48 pages, measures 5 by 8 inches, nice condition. Includes the full title/contents page with an engraving of St. John's Gate.
A very nice magazine from the French & Indian War period from the "mother country" with a wide range of varied content including news of the day, political reports, literary items, and other unusual tidbits. This was the first periodical to use the word "magazine" in its title, having begun in 1731 and lasting until 1907.
