DAILY RICHMOND EXAMINER, Virginia, February 25, 1862
* Deserters from the Confederacy
* A need to be more strict among their own
A very nice newspaper from the capital of the Confederacy, the city through which all war news would flow.
The front page is entirely taken up with advertisements. Page 2 includes the always interesting editorial, this one beginning: "It is not well that a brave people, struggling for liberty & life, should permit their backs to be menaced by sneaking traitors or by cowards, who are all traitors. The Confederacy has not maintained its authority with sufficient severity...". Also on pg. 2: "Movements & Spirit of the War" with many subheads including: "The Last Engagement at Fort Pickens--The Fortifications of Bowling Green as They were Found by the Yankees--Lances & Pikes--Bombardment & Destruction of Winton" and more. There is also reporting from "The Confederate Congress" and "The Virginia Legislature" which carries over to much of page 3.
Most of the back page is taken up with a very lengthy list of Acts of the Confederate Congress, most relating to the Civil War. Complete in 4 pages, never bound nor trimmed, and in great condition.
