HAMPSHIRE CHRONICLE, Southampton, England, Dec. 4, 1775

* Rare British title
* Revolutionary War
* Nice masthead

One of the more  handsome mastheads to be had from the 18th century (see). The ftpg. has an item noting: "...received from South Carolina...that the Carolina people are kept from acting in the dispute between England & America by the Indians who live near the back settlements, plundering them of their property, & sometimes murdering them..." (see). Also: "...arrival here from Boston, who informed me he left the army in pretty good plight; that we had about 5000 men encamped on Bunker's Hill & 50,000 of the provincials were entrenched for many miles up to the chin...".
Page 2 items include: "...from America we are informed that the Americans are resolved to keep their army, consisting of from 18 to 20,000 men, before Boston all the winter..." with more. Page 3 has an item noting Lord North read a bill prohibiting trade with the American colonies (see). And a letter from Virginia notes: "...we wait for an answer to the...petition sent to his Majesty; if that does not have a favourable reception we shall then have no hopes of a reconciliation & shall thereupon march with 20,000 men to join the Bostonians & endeavour to do ourselves that justice which is denied us by our Mother Country."
Four pages, folio size, full red tax stamp on the ftpg., great  condition.
