October 25, 1856
STATE GAZETTE, "Seat of Government" Austin, Texas, Oct. 25, 1856  We rarely are able to offer newspapers from Texas from before the Civil War. This is one.
This issue has much on politics, with pages 2 and 3 including: "The State Elections" "Speech of Hon. John C. Breckinridge at Tippecanoe, Ind." "Squatter Sovereignty" "Democracy Triumphant" "Democratic Meetings in Texas" and more. also on page 2 is not only an ad supporting: "For President JAMES BUCHANAN..." with an engraving of him, which is unusual. Also: "The Elections" is headed with an engraving of a cannon and flag (see). The bkpg. has 2 illus. runaway slave ads (see).
Four pages, folio size, a bit irregular at the spine, and a small hole in the back leaf affecting very little (see).
