THE COLUMBIAN (FOR THE COUNTRY), New York, June 9, 1810  Page two carries the report "SPANISH AMERICA - DECLARED INDEPENDENT" The report begins "It has pleased Almighty God to grant to every country alike the natural right of its own sovereignty...AND WE ARE DETERMINED NO LONGER TO SUBMIT TO THE DOMINATION OF ANY EUROPEAN OR FOREIGN POWER WHATEVER...We the Spanish provinces in America declare ourselves a FREE SOVEREIGN and INDEPENDENT PEOPLE, not acknowledging the DOMINATION of any power on earth, refusing submission and denying and repelling the authority of whatever nation may attempt dominion over us...And we do most humbly supplicate that being who decides the fate of nations, to smile on our exertion, and to bless and protect this, our new established empire.". This coverage also includes the Manifesto. This is a lengthy report and is a little more than three columns in length. There is also another article on the back page.

The front page features a lengthy remembrance of the "Character of Paine" upon the anniversary of his death. The back page has a report of the quarterly meeting of the Grand Lodge of the state of New-York.  Other news, events and advertisements, including an illustrated ad for the Hudson River Steam-Boats, are within.

Complete in four pages measuring approximately 19.75 x 13.5 inches, a few tiny edge tears, very lite dampstaining at edges, otherwise in very good condition.
