NEW YORK TIMES, New York, November 11, 1870 Page two contains the report of "BASE BALL" "The Contest for the New-Jersey Championship - The Elizabethan Ball Players the Victors" which was a match between the Resolute Club of Elizabeth and the Amateurs of Newark. "The games was very satisfactorily umpired by Mr. Chapman, and proved to be quite interesting at times. T. Ward's play at first base was the best display on the Newark side. M. Campbell exceiling on the other. This game closes the season of ball clubs for 1870." This includes the box score too.
The front page features an article "SHIPWRECK" "The Loss of the Steamer Varuna - Further Details - Sufferings of the Survivors".
