August 04, 1865
NEW-YORK TIMES, New York, August 4, 1865 On the backpage under Out-Door Sports is: "Base Ball The Great Contest At Hoboken Yesterday--20,000 People Present--The Atlantics The Champions, Score 13-12--The Game Stopped By A Storm".  This has a wonderfully written summary that  begins: "Yesterday, Gotham had base ball on the brain. It continues by describing the scene and the excitement generated by this match between Atlantics and Mutuals, played at the Elysian Field in Hoboken." It contains details about the game (terminated by thunderstorm), plus the box score. A great report about this game which is the subject of a famous Currier and Ives print called "The American National Game." A notable event in baseball history.

This is complete in 8 pages with scattered lite foxing and a slight irregular spine and small binding holes. Otherwise in good conditon.
