THE LONDON GAZETTE, November 26, 1666 The effects of the dreaded Plague are revealed in a brief front page report from Norwich stating: "The Account of our Bill of Mortality for this last week runs thus, buried of all diseases 41, whereof the Plague 30."
From Paris is news about the French navy, including: "All the Navy is at present disarmed, except twelve of their lesser ships, who are to be commanded by the Siuer du Quesne for the security of the Merchants...", plus mention of the King: "This week his Majesty hath had a review of his Guards, and is expected this day at the Thuilleries; but tis not yet known whither he intends to reside here this year."
A report from Naples includes: "...We are much concerned here at the great quantities of fire and ashes of late thrown up by the Vesuvius...but the...present inconvenience not so much troubling us, as the superstitious observations of all persons: Their flame having always ushered in some great judgment upon this Kingdom."
An 11 by 6 3/4 inch single sheet, in great condition.
