November 19, 1831
NILES' WEEKLY REGISTER, from Baltimore, Maryland, dated  November 19, 1831

* Nat Turner, leader of the slave insurrection, is hanged

This small size newspaper began in 1811 and was a prime source for national political news of the first half of the19th century.

Within this issue is a brief & rather inconspicuous item reading:
"The famous Nat Turner was taken in Southampton county on the 30th ult. His place if concealment was in a cave, not many miles from the theatre of his bloody exploits. He has been tried, found guilty and hung, and his body given to the surgeons."

Among other reports in this issue are:

* "United States Whale Fishery"
* "The Imprisoned Missionaries"
* "Vermont"
* "Polish Proclamation"

This issue is complete in 16 pages, measures about 6 1/2 by 10 inches and is in very nice condition.  The page of the key text has a small piece missing from the upper right corner, but it is well into the margin (see images).

As noted in Wikipedia: "Niles edited and published the Weekly Register until 1836, making it into one of the most widely-circulated magazines in the United States and himself into one of the most influential journalists of his day. Devoted primarily to politics, Niles' Weekly Register is considered an important source for the history of the period."
