The front page is filled with ads, and certainly the most intriguing is the one with a dateline of "George-Town, June 30, 1791" with the text including: "The President of the United States, having approved the sites for the Public Buildings to be erected in pursuance of the Act of Congress for establishing the temporary and permanent seat of Government of the United States, the commissioners appointed in virtue of that Act will meet at George-Town...and proceed to sell, at venue, a number of lots in the best situations in the Federal City..." with a bit more (see photos for the complete text).
This front page advertisement essentially announces the very beginning of Washington, D.C. The sites for the White House, the Capitol, and other government buildings have been set, and now residential lots are offered for sale to those who wish to live in the capital of the United States. This advertisement is almost quaint in its appearance & text, yet is extremely significant on the founding of our nation's capital.
