SALEM REGISTER, Massachusetts, Dec. 1, 1842 Page 2 has a somewhat lengthy article concerning the Mormons and showing considerable bias against them, headed: "Mormonism--Joe Smith", portions of which include: "...says Joe Smith preached at Nauvoo last Sunday to an immense concourse of the brethren...Extraordinary as it may seem, after the seething expositions of the utterly profligate conduct of this pretended Prophet...his doctrines are spreading far and wide...taken fresh hold in that part of Norther Ohio...Mormon Temple at Kirtland has lately been dedicated anew...They find ready hearers among those who look for marvels in religion, for physical manifestations of miraculous power...Ignorance is ever credulous...Hence Mormonism finds favor with a large class who must have some religion or other...What educated man ever, in good faith, embraced its absurdities?..." with more.
Complete in four pages, some minor wear at folds and margins, generally nice.
