THE SALEM OBSERVER, Massachusetts, Aug. 31, 1844 The front page has an article headed: "Mormonism", portions of which include: "...a communication from one who has embraced the delusions of the Mormon Prophet...attempts to give the views held by the members of his fraternity..." following which is a series of questions concerning the Mormon faith, ending with: "...will our Mormon friend have the goodness to answer the questions which I have proposed & give us at least the shadow of proof to sustain his assertions, and he will satisfy a SECEDER."
