July 02, 1781
Fascinating document for providing pay to an officer of the Revolutionary War. The document is totally handwritten and reads: "Sir, Pay Major John Ripley Fifty pounds in Bills of this state--and charge the state. Pay Table Office, July 2, 1781" Includes two signatures (see).
Measures 4 1/4 by 8 inches, totally handwritten, excellent condition. A nice item for display and dated during this very significant year in the war, just a few months before Cornwallis surrendered.
