June 17, 1762
THE PENNSYLVANIA GAZETTE, Philadelphia, June 17, 1762

* Rare Benjamin Benjamin Franklin imprint newspaper

This is perhaps one of the most famous newspapers of the colonial era, almost entirely because it was printed by Benjamin Franklin, as indicated by the imprint at the bottom of the bkpg. which lists him by name, and identifies him as the Postmaster as well: "Printed by B. FRANKLIN, Post-Master, and D. HALL, at the New-Printing-Office, near the Market." (see photos)

Franklin's imprint only appeared in the Penna. Gazette thru 1765, and many issues of this period are not found with the imprint as it often appeared on the advertising leaf, commonly thrown away. This is an issue complete with all four pages and with the Franklin imprint intact.
Content includes a pg. 2 report under "St. John, in Antigua" that says: "Upwards of 400 Negroes sailed form hence last Friday, to serve in the Expedition to be commanded by the Earl of Albemarle..." & a bit more.

From "Charles-Town, South Carolina" is a report stating that the Upper Creek Indians had made peace with the Spaniards, and that the Lower Creeks were about to do the same. From "Boston" is word that a child in Danvers was attacked by "an Adder" (a poisonous snake), plus a few details. Has all ads on the back page.

Has three non-archival mends at the spine, archival mends to a few margins tears, some lite foxing, otherwise good. 4 pages.
