August 17, 1876
THE NEW YORK TIMES, New York, NY, August 17, 1876
* Rare William "Buffalo Bill" Cody report
* Post Custer massacre era
Two columns on page 5 are taken up with reports headed: "The Indian Campaign" with various subheads which include: "From Fetterman to Goose Creek -- Marching Through the Big Horn Mountains--Raw Recruits for Active Service" and more, including the last one which is the attention-getter: "The Corps of Scouts Led by Buffalo Bill". Rarely do we find period mention of Buffalo Bill in newspapers relating to his activities with the Indians.
The report on Buffalo Bill (see photos) begins: "A great feature of the expedition is the corps of scouts. There are some eleven or twelve of them and their chief is Cody, better known as 'Buffalo Bill.' Like all great men he has his imitators...".
There are other subheads in these two columns relating to the Indian situation (see).
Complete in 8 pgs., browning at margins, chipping from the bottom right corner causes minor text loss to not remotely close to the noted content.
