April 25, 1945
THE STARS AND STRIPES, London edition, England, April 25, 1945  Self-described as "The Newspaper of U.S. Armed Forces in the European Theater of Operations".

Views of Nazi atrocities with Holocaust reporting (see images).  Headings include:  "Berlin Fights Block by Block", "Swastika Shows at Frisco",  "3 Armies Closing in on Munich", and more.  However, the most noteworthy content are the two horrific/graphic images "Nazi Justice" (not shown in the photos provided below) which is a photo of one of 150 Nazi prisoners who were "herded into a barn and forced to sit on gasoline soaked straw.  The straw was ignited and the door locked by fiendish SS Troops.  U.S. 9th Army troops captured the Gardelegen area in which human pyres were located before the Germans had time to remove the evidence.", AND, "No Mercy Here", which depicts German civilians at Gardelegen remove bodies from a mass grave of Nazi atrocity victims.  The image shows a snapshot of what would later be identified as the Gardelegen Masacre of April 13, 1945 (to see more:  http://www.scrapbookpages.com/gardelegen/Massacre00.html).

The issue is complete in 4 pages, has various edge tears, is evenly browned, and is very fragile.  There are pencil markings above the masthead with the words "War Dept".
